President Muhammadu Buhari has been given the authority to appoint Mr Umar Yahaya as the co-chairman of the governing council of the Unclaimed Funds Trust Fund.
This followed the confirmation of his appointment by the Senate during its plenary in Abuja at the National Assembly complex on Wednesday.
Last month, Mr Buhari had written to the upper chamber of the parliament, seeking their approval to have the appointee occupy the position.
In a statement signed by Mr Ezrel Tabiowo, the Special Assistant on Press to the Senate President, Mr Ahmad Lawan, it was disclosed that the confirmation of Mr Yahaya followed the consideration of a report by the Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions.
It was stated that the Chairman of the Committee, Mr Uba Sani, in his presentation, said Mr Yahaya’s appointment was in accordance with the provisions of Section 77(5) of the Finance Act, 2020.
“The nominee possesses the academic qualifications, technical knowledge and professional experience to be appointed co-chairman of the Governing Council of Unclaimed Funds Trust Fund,” the lawmaker was quoted as saying in the statement issued today.
Mr Sani informed his colleagues that during the screening of the nominee, the panel did not receive any petition against his nomination, adding that he was cleared by the Nigeria Police Force and Department of State Services (DSS) and also had the Code of Conduct Acknowledgement slip.
