It was another exciting week for lovers of a music talent hunt show, Nigerian Idol, but the reverse for one of the contestants, Constance, who was evicted from the show.

The budding singer garnered the least number of votes and was shown the way out of Nigerian Idol Season 8 last Sunday.

However, this was after she joined the top eight contestants to pay tribute to the late South African rapper, Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, professionally known as AKA.

The artiste was shot dead in a drive-by shooting on Florida Road, Durban, South Africa, on February 10, 2023. The contestants performed AKA’s track, Fela in Versace, to pay their respect to the late artiste.

The winner of Nigerian Idol Season 7, Progress, was a guest on the show last week. When he spoke with the anchor, IK Osakioduwa, he said he was enjoying life as a Nigerian Idol, which should be an inspiration for the contestants.

He also anchored a trivia questions session for each of the top 8 contestants about the artiste whose songs they were to perform on the night.

Straight to the performances, the contestants performed some songs to the delight of the viewers and the audience in the studio.

Chisom set the ball rolling for the night with a calm delivery of Holiday by Rema. This was followed by a captivating rendition of Oxlade’s Ku Lo Sa by Goodness.

Quest was next with her performance of Paradise Road by South African female group Joy, while Ose Daniel invoked the spirit of late Afrobeat legend, Fela, with his electric performance of Zombie.

Savy Henry followed with his performance of Jailer by Asa, as Victory performed the late Lucky Dube’s Prisoner, and was followed by Precious Mac, who sang Umqombothi by Yvonne Chaka Chaka.

It was not all about the contestants as one of the judges, D’Banj, had his 43rd birthday on the live show.

Nigerian Idol season 6 winner, Kingdom, joined the season 7 winner to deliver a special birthday song.

Viewers have the opportunity to vote for their favourite contestants here till 9 pm on Thursday.
