Nigerian music star, David “Davido” Adeleke, has announced that 424 orphanages have benefited from his philanthropic efforts to the tune of N237 million.

In a message shared on his social media pages and seen by Business Post on Thursday, the Unavailable crooner said, “I am proud to announce that my foundation, The David Adeleke Foundation (DAF), has donated the sum of N237,000,000.00 (Two Hundred and Thirty-Seven Million Naira) to orphanages throughout Nigeria.

“The distribution of donation funds was led by the chair of the DAF Disbursement Committee, Mrs Titi Adebayo, with the foundation successfully distributing funds to 424 (Four Hundred and Twenty-Four) orphanages, benefiting a total of 13,818 (Thirteen Thousand, Eight Hundred, and Eighteen) children.”

He noted that he founded DAF in 2022 with a strong desire and passion to continually assist others and create a proper framework for ongoing charitable works to benefit the good people of Nigeria.

“Through this foundation, we have raised millions of Naira and disbursed much-needed funds to hundreds of orphanages, significantly improving the lives of countless children.”

He noted that, “Seeing the impact and success of my previous donations, particularly in 2021 after my birthday, left a mark on my heart and reading the numerous letters and messages from everyone who received this donation has reaffirmed my commitment to continually assist the less privileged in any capacity. This motivated me to establish the DAF to execute our mission effectively.”

He revealed that in October 2022, the DAF began reaching out to eminent and compassionate Nigerians, seeking their support in raising funds for the less privileged across the country.

“Thanks to the generous contributions from individuals and corporations across various sectors and regions, the DAF was able to raise the substantial Donation Sum of 237M Naira.”

“I would like to personally thank all individuals and corporations that assisted in raising the Donation Sum. This would not have been possible without your unwavering support and kindness. May God bless each and every one of you,” he added.

He added that the David Adeleke Foundation remains steadfast in its mission to uplift and support vulnerable communities across Nigeria.

“Through initiatives like this significant donation to orphanages, the foundation continues to make a positive impact in the lives of those in need.”

Davido has always been known for his philanthropy. During his birthday celebration in November 2021, he received over N150 million in cash transfers in less than 24 hours after asking his industry colleagues for N1 million as part of a challenge.

Celebrities that gifted Davido N1 million included Zlatan Ibile, Adekunle Gold, Mr Eazi, Nengi, Chike, Teni, Charles of Play, Cubana Chiefpriest, Naira Marley, M.I, Phyno, Eniola Badmus, Nasboi, Sydney Talker, and Peruzzi.

Others were Pasuma, Toke Makinwa, Don Jazzy, Focalistic, Ned Okonkwo, Ubi Franklin, Bella Shmurda, Friday Osanebi, Rema, Tunde Ednut, Larry Gaaga, Dorathy Bachor, Bizzle Osikoya, among others.

Some donors, including Nigerian businessmen Obi Cubana and Mr Femi Otedola, gave the 1 Milli singer undisclosed amounts of money.

The act saw him get an endorsement with Wema Bank, which was the account he requested the transaction be made into. Davido later donated the money to orphanages.

Partnerships for Progress: Collaboration Between Banks and Fintechs is the Future of Banking in Africa

According to the World Bank, approximately 350 million adults in sub-Saharan Africa are still unbanked, accounting for 17% of the 2 billion global unbanked population. This has largely been due to a struggle to tap into the continent’s low-income segment, the widest proportion of the population. Consumers within this market feel
