Star Actor Taiwo Hassan Ogogo for Burial Today in Ilaro

The late Nigerian movie star, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, will be buried in his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State, today, Monday, August 24, 2026.

The Chief Imam of Ilaro, in an announcement on Sunday night, disclosed that the burial prayer is slated for 10 am at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion Ground, Ilaro.

The late star actor was a devoted Muslim during his lifetime and was a very active member of the Ilaro Muslim Community.

In the short message from the Chief Imam, the group prayed that “Allah forgive(s) his (Ogogo’s) shortcomings and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus.”

Also, a veteran in the Nigerian film industry, Mr Jide Kosoko, in an announcement last night, disclosed that there would be a lying-in-state ceremony for the departed thespian today by 11 am at the Pavilion, Ilaro, Ogun State.

He also prayed that the soul of the 66-year-old actor, who died at about 3:00 pm on Sunday, August 23, 2026, would “rest in perfect peace.”

“We pray that Almighty Allah grants him eternal rest and gives his family, friends, colleagues and loved ones the strength and fortitude to bear this great loss,” he also prayed.

Similarly, the president of Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), Mr Bolaji Amusan, fondly called Mr Latin, mourned the passing of Ogogo, who was an active member of the association before his demise.

“Ogogo lived a remarkable life, touched countless hearts and left an indelible mark on our industry and culture.

May his legacy live on forever, and may God grant his family, colleagues and loved ones the strength to bear this painful loss. Rest in peace, Ogogo. Your era may have ended, but your legacy will never die,” Mr Latin wrote.

In the same vein, Mr Solomon Adeola, also known as Yayi, who is the Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, expressed great sadness and regrets at the demise of the actor after battling stage 4 cancer.

In a condolence message, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Ogun State in the 2027 general elections said, “I am greatly saddened by the death of a brother who believed and worked assiduously for my cause and the cause of our people.

“I sympathise with his immediate family for their efforts and struggles to keep the dearly departed alive following his illness. God knows best in all circumstances.”

The lawmaker, who also hails from Ilaro, promised to continue to support the immediate family in their hour of need, adding that the good deeds of the patriarch of the family to society will not be forgotten.
