It was a day of honour for Mr Tokunbo Wahab, the Special Adviser on Education to the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Sunday, September 27, 2021, at the Excellence Recognition Awards held in Lagos.
The respected lawyer and politician was named as the Government Official of the Year at the ceremony organised by celebrity journal, Global Excellence, which has a celebrity journalist, Mr Mayor Akinpelu, as its publisher.
Business Post gathered that TW, as he is fondly called by his close friends and associates, was bestowed with the honour for his outstanding achievements since he was chosen for the role in 2019.
At the event, which was attended by several personalities, the awardee was full of joy and pride that his good works have not gone unnoticed.
While receiving the award, Mr Wahab thanked the organisers of the awards and Mr Akinpelu for the recognition and dedicated the award to God, his family and the Governor of Lagos State.
He further stated that being called to serve is an honour and thanked Mr Sanwo-Olu for counting him worthy to be on his team out of the millions of Lagosians who are also qualified to serve the people.
Since he became an aide to the Lagos Governor on education, Mr Wahab has worked very hard to transform the sector and make institutions of the state pride to many others in Nigeria.
Some of the indelible footprint recorded since his assumption of office include the ongoing Lagos State University (LASU) hostel project in Epe, the recognition of LASU as a top 600 school (501) in the world and number two in Nigeria.
This was according to the Times Higher Education (THE) world ranking released in September 2021. Earlier in the year, the school had ranked as the best Young University in Nigeria, also by THE.
In addition, he had seen to the upgrade of the Lagos State College of Nursing (LASCON) facilities, the Eko Digital Initiative which is aimed at guaranteeing access to modern/technological resources that will foster learning at primary, secondary and tertiary institutions across the state. He also initiated the upgrading and digitalization of libraries in different locations, including the remote areas in Lagos.
Other ongoing projects under his watch are commissioning of library/ICT centres across Lagos State secondary schools, ongoing construction of administrative buildings at Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH) Isolo, ongoing construction of LASU/eConnel Business School in Victoria Island, ongoing construction of 8,700-bed space for students of LASU and the upgrading of LASPOTECH, Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED) Ijanikin and Micheal Otedola College of Primary Education (MOCPED) Epe to a University of Technology and a University of Education respectively.
