A fast-rising artiste in Nigeria, Mr Omah Didia, fondly called Omah Lay, has been remanded by a court in Uganda for allegedly violating COVID-19 protocols in the East African nation.
Omah Lay was in the country last week to perform and he was arrested by the police alongside his manager, Mr Muyiwa Awomiyi, and another person, Temilade Openyi, otherwise known as Tems.
The trio and four Ugandans, including the show promoters, were charged to court Makindye on charges of negligently doing acts likely to spread infectious diseases C/S 171 of the Penal Code Act.
Giving an update on the matter on Monday afternoon, the police said, “The Nigerian trio of Stanley Omah Didia alias Omah Lay, Temilade Openyi alias Tems and Muyiwa Awomiyi have been charged to court in Makindye on charges of negligently doing acts likely to spread infectious diseases C/S 171 of the Penal Code Act.”
It further said, “The earlier plans of releasing them on police bond were suspended after their case file was sanctioned by the office of the DPP.
“They were jointly charged with four other Ugandans. All remanded till Wednesday, December 16, 2020.”
Meanwhile, the singer has alleged that he has not been given a fair hearing in his trial at the country. Omah Lay made this allegation via his Twitter handle this afternoon.
Why am I being detained? Why am I not being given a right to a fair hearing? he queried.
