Twitter was almost set ablaze on Thursday while Nigeria was celebrating its 60 years of independence from Great Britain.
A popular music artiste in Nigeria, Sodiq Abubakar Yusuf, otherwise known by his stage name CDQ, posted via his Twitter handle of a disagreement he had with the son of the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Bola Tinubu, though he did not give details of the incident.
In his tweet, which sparked reactions, CDQ said he would be the last person the son of the Lagos political godfather will ever mess with, promising to release an article about what went wrong between them.
CDQ and Seyi Tinubu are close friends and from the singer’s rants yesterday, they were hanging out at the residence of another music star, David Adeleke, otherwise known as Davido, when the spat erupted.
But an insider, who claimed to have witnessed what actually happened, said CDQ took the matter too far and should have called Seyi Tinubu to express his displeasure rather than going on Twitter to drag his close pal all for clout.
“The friends were just talking about the importance of the education of one’s children over designer wears, which is what friends discuss among themselves,” the insider claimed.
“Seyi was of the opinion that one’s children’s education supersedes everything else and that designers cannot be compared to educating one’s children because the two are far apart,” the insider further said.
To buttress his belief and his theory, Seyi reportedly took CDQ’s designer cap, which incidentally was the only designer wear around, and put it on the floor to explain that anybody can step on it without knowing it’s a designer cap and according to him, such cannot happen with the children’s education.
It was stated that this was what may have vexed CDQ, who rushed to Twitter, to claim he was disrespected by Seyi Tinubu because of his father’s influence.
The insider said Seyi meant no harm in what he did but expressed shock at the reaction of CDQ to the issue.
Business Post learnt that the singer has now deleted the tweets.
CDQ was accused of taking such action because he wanted to trend on Twitter because he knows he can get publicity using Seyi father’s political position, not minding the fact that he has enjoyed the success that comes with his association with the son.
It was alleged that in the past, CDQ has enjoyed many privileges that came with his friendship with Seyi, including getting his shows on Seyi’s billboards for free.
