She was chosen to project the brand, especially for its Here For Her SuperSport campaign designed to support female sports.
The chief executive of MultiChoice Nigeria, Mr John Ugbe, explained that the choice of Oshoala as brand ambassador was due to her passion and dedication for the game, which continues to inspire millions across the globe.
“I am especially excited about our partnership with Asisat Oshoala, as I pride myself as an advocate for women, leading a team that comprises an equal split of men and women.
“We are patterning with Asisat as our brand ambassador, as part of our Here For Her SuperSport promise supporting female sports, because she has proven to be a strong, dedicated advocate for the sport and has inspired millions with her skills, athleticism and grace – on and off the pitch.
“With this brand partnership, we will continue to tell our truly authentic stories, and sports forms a key part of that narrative, especially with the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup from July 20-August 20, 2023, across our SuperSport channels. We are here for the Super Falcons; we are here for Asisat,” Mr Ugbe said.
Commenting on her choice for the campaign, Oshoala said the partnership is about giving hope to the younger generation.
“I really hope this will be long-term because I can see a lot of positivity at the beginning. This is not about me, but about the younger generation coming, the kids that will be hopeful for the future.
“I didn’t have the opportunity to watch a lot of matches while growing up, but here I am, a MultiChoice ambassador.
“It’s amazing how female sports have grown. We need to acknowledge the power of the media to promote talents, and that is what MultiChoice has brought to us. I appreciate everyone that made this happen.
“The World Cup is here, MultiChoice will be showing all the matches, and I urge you all to support the Super Falcons,” the footballer said.

Tournament Overview
This will be the 15th edition of WAFCON, officially titled the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2024. It is also marked with a historic milestone as Morocco becomes the first country to host back-to-back editions, following its successful staging of the 2022 tournament. This year, twelve of the continent’s top teams will compete across five cities and six venues: Rabat, Casablanca, Mohammédia, Oujda, and Berkane.
Falcons Seeks Redemption
Following a shock defeat to Morocco in the semi-final of the last edition, the Super Falcons look to go all the way to win a 10th WAFCON title. Led by CAF Women’s Player of the Year, Chiamaka Nnadozie, the Falcons will be in Group B, along with Tunisia, Algeria and Botswana. Falcon veteran, Asisat Oshoala, will still be a key member of the team, bringing her much needed experience to push the team forward.
The tournament promises to be competitive with defending champions, South Africa coming back as favourites while the hosts, Morocco, dream of going one better. In 2022, they reached the final and set a tournament attendance record with over 50,000 fans in the stands. Dark horses like Zambia, Ghana, Mali, and DR Congo will look to shake up the status quo.
Group Stage Breakdown
Group A: Morocco, Zambia, Senegal, DR Congo
Group B: Nigeria, Tunisia, Algeria, Botswana
Africa’s most decorated side, the Super Falcons, will seek a 10th title. Despite a lacklustre 2022 campaign, Nigeria are the outright favourites and the highest-ranked team in the competition. Tunisia and Algeria have made recent strides, and Botswana could pull off surprises.
Group C: South Africa, Ghana, Mali, Tanzania
Tournament Format & Stakes
Group winners, runners-up, and the two best third-placed teams will progress to the quarterfinals. The stakes are high—not only WAFCON glory, but also vital momentum building toward the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
The 2024 WAFCON promises riveting drama: a blend of tradition and underdogs, with freshly crowned champions, veteran nations, and ambitious hosts all vying for continental supremacy. Expect highly competitive and exhilarating matches this July. You can see it all LIVE on SuperSport!

UK Charges Former Arsenal Player Thomas Partey of Rape, Sexual Assault

By Adedapo Adesanya
Ghanaian football player, Thomas Partey, has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, days after his contract with Arsenal Football Club expired.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced that the 32-year-old ex-Arsenal player will now appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.
The allegations relate to three separate women who reported incidents which took place between 2021 and 2022.
The case had initially been reported in July 2022 since an unnamed Premier League international was arrested, but since he wasn’t charged, he could not be named. Now, with Mr Partey officially charged, the media can publish his name.
Ms Jaswant Narwal, of the Crown Prosecution Service, said: “The Crown Prosecution Service has today authorised the prosecution of Thomas Partey for multiple counts of rape – after carefully reviewing a comprehensive file of evidence.”
“Our prosecutors have worked closely with officers in the Metropolitan Police who have carried out the investigation, to review the evidence and advise on the appropriate charges.
“We remind everyone that criminal proceedings are active, and the defendant has the right to a fair trial.
“We know there will be significant public interest in this announcement, but it is absolutely vital that there is no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings,” she said as per The Telegraph.
With this development, Arsenal is facing intense criticism for continue playing the midfielder for almost three years in full knowledge of an investigation.
He joins a series of footballers who have been officially charged for sexually related crimes like Mason Greenwood formerly of Manchester United and Benjamin Mendy, formerly of Manchester City.
Unlike Arsenal, Manchester United suspended Mr Greenwood immediately on full pay after he was arrested in January 2022 following allegations surrounding material which was published online. Charges against the former England international including attempted rape and assault were dropped on February 2, 2023.
In Mr Mendy’s case, after he was charged with rape and sexual assault in August 2021, the club suspended the Frenchman without pay until he left the club in June 2023. He later sued and was able to get a considerable amount of his wages.
