Chelsea Football Club on Saturday, May 29 beat one of their English rivals, Manchester City Football Club, to clinch the 2021 Champions League trophy.

Kai Havertz converted a pass from his teammate, Mason Mount, into a goal in the 42nd minute of the first half of the game and this was enough to make his club lift the trophy in Porto, Portugal.

The Thomas Tuchel men guarded the one-goal lead and made every effort to prevent the Josep Guardiola side from putting the ball in the back of the net.

The win tonight has made Manchester City to wait another year for Champions League glory. They had thought this season would be theirs until Chelsea snatched it away from them.

Thomas Tuchel took over as the coach of Chelsea about six months ago after Frank Lampard was shown the way out of the club’s management over poor results.

The Blues were in the ninth position when he came in but he turned things around by qualifying them for next season’s Champions League by finishing in the top four.

Even Chelsea had ended the season below the top 4, the win on Saturday night in Porto would have automatically put them in the group stage of the competition.

This win is important for Chelsea because it is the second Champions League trophy in nine years and for Thomas Tuchel, it is significant because he lost the final to Bayern Munich last season when he was in charge of PSG.
