Manchester City midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne, has been named Premier League Player of the Season for the 2019/20 campaign.

The Belgian international beat six other contenders including Liverpool trio of Jordan Henderson, Sadio Mane and Trent Alexander-Arnold, Southampton striker Danny Ings, Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope and Leicester’s Golden Boot winner Jamie Vardy to the award.

Kevin De Bruyne was the only Manchester City player to be nominated for the prize after coming second in the Premier League campaign to Liverpool, who finally won the title since 1990. The Blue side of Manchester who had emerged champions at the two previous seasons.

The playmaker as well as recording 20 assists – equalling the league record set by Arsenal’s Thierry Henry in 2003 – also scored 13 times to help City finish as the division’s highest scorers for the third successive season.

The Belgium international matched Henry’s assists record when he set up Raheem Sterling to put City 3-0 ahead against Norwich on the final day of the season in a game that City eventually won 5-0.

Tottenham Hotspurs Son Heung-Min won Goal of the Season for his solo strike during Tottenham’s 5-0 win against Burnley in December

Business Post had reported that Liverpool’s Alexander-Arnold was named Young Player of the Season, while his manager Jurgen Klopp won the award for Premier League Manager of the Season.

Mr Klopp held off competition from Frank Lampard, Chris Wilder and Brendan Rodgers to win the award.

On Saturday night, Manchester City were eliminated from the Champions League at the quarterfinal stage for a third season in a row on suffering a shock 3-1 defeat against Olympique Lyonnais of France.

That means they finish the season with only the Carabao Cup which they won earlier this year defeating Aston Villa.
