The interim manager of Tottenham Hotspur, Mr Cristian Stellini, has left his role in the football club along with his coaching staff, a statement signed by the club’s chairman, Mr Daniel Levy, has confirmed.

The Italian football coach, who replaced his fellow countryman, Mr Antonio Conte, about a month ago, was removed a day after his team lost to Newcastle United 6-1 in an English Premier League match at St James’ Park.

In the statement on Monday, Mr Levy disclosed that Tottenham would now be led to an EPL game against Manchester United at home on Thursday by Mr Ryan Mason, who he said “knows the club and the players well.”

Tottenham currently sit 5th on the table with 53 points, six points behind their next opponent with 59 points. The London club have played two matches more than Manchester United, and the hopes of making it to the elite Champions League are almost fading away.

Tottenham were bloodied at Newcastle on Sunday, conceding five goals in the first 21 minutes of the game. At the resumption of the second half, Harry Kane pulled one back in the 49th minute, but the Magpies extended their lead 23 minutes from time.

The club chairman described the team’s performance yesterday as “wholly unacceptable,” taking the ultimate responsibility for the disaster.

“Sunday’s performance against Newcastle was wholly unacceptable. It was devastating to see. We can look at many reasons why it happened, and whilst myself, the Board, the coaches and the players must all take collective responsibility, ultimately the responsibility is mine.

“Cristian will leave his current role along with his coaching staff. Cristian stepped in at a difficult point in our season, and I want to thank him for the professional manner in which he and his coaching staff have conducted themselves during such a challenging time. We wish him and his staff well.

“Ryan Mason will take over Head Coach duties with immediate effect. Ryan knows the Club and the players well. We shall update further on his coaching staff in due course.

“I met with the Player Committee today – the squad is determined to pull together to ensure the strongest possible finish to the season. We are all clear we need to deliver performances which earn your amazing support,” Mr Levy said in the statement.
