Airtel Africa Shuts Down Loss-Making Kenya Subsidiary

The Kenyan subsidiary of Airtel Africa Plc, Airtel Kenya Telesonic, has been shut down over poor performance.

Airtel Kenya Telesonic handles the wholesale internet and fibre business of the leading telecommunications company in the East African nation.

In the last two years, the company has not declared profits and has struggled to generate revenue for the parent organisation.

In the 2024 financial year, it recorded a loss of 2.9 million shillings and last year, the loss grew to 16.1 million shillings.

This development has forced Airtel Africa to begin the deregistration of the business in Kenya, according to the Registrar of Companies in Kenya.

It was learned that, all things being equal, Airtel Kenya Telesonic should be deregistered by December 2026.

Airtel Kenya Telesonic was incorporated in 2022, and in 2024 and 2025, it recorded no revenue, as it could not compete with other operators in the country like MTN, Safaricom, Seacom and Liquid Intelligent Technologies.
