A Nigerian-based firm, LH Telecommunication Limited, has acquired a majority stake in Emerging Markets Telecommunication Services (EMTS) Limited, the parent company of 9mobile.
9mobile is one of the GSM network providers in Nigeria.
It used to be known as Etisalat until the UAE-based company pulled out of the business a few years ago and asked EMTS to drop its brand name, which necessitated the name change to 9mobile.
According to Nairametrics, LH Telecommunication has promised to turn the fortunes of the organisation around.
9mobile has been struggling since Etisalat left Nigeria, but the new investor intends to make it one of the best in the country.
Already, it has secured the approvals of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), and its representatives have been appointed to the board of 9mobile to protect its business interests.
Business Post reports that 9mobile faces stiff competition with other providers in Nigeria like MTN, Airtel, and Glo.
