How MTN Lumos Mobile Electricity Works

Earlier this year, MTN Nigeria, in partnership with Lumos, launched a mobile solar electricity solution for the benefit of families and businesses around the country.

The initiative came at a time when Nigerians were yearning for stable electricity supply, which the government has failed to give them for many years.

But five months after the mobile solar electricity also called the Y’ello Boz was launched, some residents of the country are still not conversant with how it works.

Business Post, in this article, brings to you how the system works and how it can also be purchased.

From our findings, the service is only available to MTN users in major cities of the country including Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Ibadan and others.

Details on the website of MTN Nigeria explained that for customers to enjoy the service, they will have to visit an MTN store nearest to them with a registered MTN SIM card as well as a valid ID card and names/details of two guarantors.

The device would be purchased for N26,000 (one-time payment) with different subscription packages to choose from.

The mobile electricity device kit comes with large 80W solar panel unit and cables, solar indoor unit, USB mobile phone charger, two powerful led bulbs, and a DC to AC converter.

After the device is purchased, it would be installed by professional and authorized installers near the buyer’s location.

Note that the payment is done using the registered MTN mobile phone and it includes a one-time Set-up fee for joining the service, and a minimum of 20 days of electricity every month whether the system is used or not.

However, subscriber can choose any combination from the plans to meet the 20 days per month minimum usage term. Failure to meet this requirement will automatically lock the system.

The available plans include 5 days (N200 per day = N1000), 10 days (N180 = N 1,800), 30 days (N150 = N4, 500), 90 days (N140 = N12, 600), 180 days (N130 = N23, 400), and 365 days (N128 = N 46,720).

How to activate the mobile electricity system

  1. Check that your MTN account (registered to Lumos service) has enough credit; You should always credit your Lumos system for 30 days a month. Please note: a minimum of 20 days must be paid every month, whether you use the system or not.
  2. Choose a plan from the options.
  3. SMS your chosen plan to 317. (E.g.) for a 30 day plan, SMS “30” to 317.
  4. Get confirmation SMS & start enjoying 24/7 electricity!

To keep you always in the light, MTN Nigeria now offers top-up, auto renewal and daily fallback as options on all plans.

To exit send Exit to 317.

Choosing longer plans gives optimal value for money.
