Delta Airlines Defends Ejecting YouTuber Adam Saleh from Flight

By Dipo Olowookere

Operators of Delta Airlines have stood by its decision to oust YouTube star, Adam Saleh, from its flight.

On December 21, 2016, Mr Saleh was asked to leave a Delta Airlines flight, allegedly because another passenger overheard him speaking Arabic while talking on the phone to his mother.

The incident caused a commotion in the cabin and resulted in more than 20 customers expressing their discomfort.

The YouTuber recorded part of the incident and spread it on social media.

It should be noted that Mr Saleh gained popularity on YouTube by playing pranks. He is known to stage fake scenarios involving his Muslim identity to provoke conversations about race relations.

Delta Airlines, reacting to the December 21 incident, emphasised that, “This type of conduct is not welcome on any Delta flight.”

However, the airline operator emphasised that it was “conducting a full review to understand what transpired,” pointing out that, “We are taking allegations of discrimination very seriously; our culture requires treating others with respect.”

It explained that “two customers were removed from this flight and later rebooked after the disturbance” and “upon landing, the crew was debriefed and multiple passenger statements collected.”

“Based on the information collected to date, it appears the customers who were removed sought to disrupt the cabin with provocative behaviour, including shouting,” it explained.

The airline operator stressed that “what is paramount to Delta is the safety and comfort of our passengers and employees. It is clear these individuals sought to violate that priority.”
