NURTW sacks MC Oluomo

The Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has been dissolved by the national leadership, with Mr Musiliu Akinsanya, otherwise known as MC Oluomo, sacked.

This information was contained in a statement jointly signed by the national president, Mr Tajudeen Baruwa, and the general secretary, Mr Kabiru Ado Ya’u, of the union.

In the statement, it was stated that the secretary of NURTW in Lagos, Mr Seyi Bankole, will now take charge of the organisation in the state.

It was stated that the decision to remove MC Oluomo was taken at a meeting held on Tuesday night and it followed his exit from the group a few weeks ago.

MC Oluomo had announced that he was leaving NURTW with his supporters after he was suspended for anti-union activities.

He had then advised the state government under Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu to suspend activities of the union in the state to forestall any breakdown of law and order. This advice was adhered to as the government barred NURTW from operating in Lagos.

But in the statement issued by the union titled Dissolution of Lagos State Administrative Council, it was stated that Mr Bankole will now lead NURTW in Lagos.

“The National administrative council in the exercise of the powers conferred on it by Article 17, section 2. subsections (i) and (ii) of the constitution of the union, during its meeting of April 5, 2022, has dissolved the Lagos State administrative council forthwith.

“In view of the fact that nature abhors a vacuum and in line with Article 42 section 4, the State Secretary, Seyi Bankole is hereby directed to take over the running of the affairs of Lagos State council pending the constitution of the caretaker committee after due consultations with appropriate relevant authorities, meanwhile, all members of the dissolved state administrative council are hereby directed to handover all property of the Union, including cash to the State Secretary.

“On the strength of the above development, therefore, all members of the union in Lagos State and beyond, including members of the public are hereby kindly requested to henceforth stop dealing with members of the dissolved Lagos State administrative council on issues concerning the union,” the statement said.
