Former prime minister of the United Kingdom, Mr David Cameron, has returned to government as Foreign Secretary amid a fresh cabinet shake-up by Prime Minister, Mr Rishi Sunak, on Monday.
Downing Street announced on Monday that Mr Cameron would join the government, accepting a peerage in order to do so, as part of a wider reshuffle in which Ms Suella Braverman was sacked as Home Secretary and replaced by the Foreign Secretary, Mr James Cleverly.
Business Post also confirmed that Mr Jeremy Hunt would remain as chancellor.
Mr Cameron stood down in 2016 after losing the Brexit referendum but reportedly told friends in 2018 he wanted to return to frontline politics, preferably as Foreign Secretary.
Mr Sunak sacked Ms Braverman as UK Home Secretary after she was blamed for inflaming tensions over Armistice Day protests.
Political analysts say her dismissal is being used by Mr Sunak as the trigger for a wider reshuffle and to revamp waning political support.
Her exit follows weeks of controversy in which she increasingly seemed to be following her hard-right policy agenda, with a series of controversial statements, including a much-criticised description of homelessness as a “lifestyle choice”.
It is the second time Braverman has been forced out of the same job in little more than a year after former UK PM Liz Truss ordered her to resign in October last year after only weeks in the job, for sending confidential information to an MP from a private email address.
However, she was brought back by Mr Sunak and her return has seen a surge in hateful and inflammatory comments bordering on issues like immigration, racism, and homelessness.
