Nigeria has shipped the first consignment of 70,000 metric tonnes of its Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to Pakistan.
Already, the shipment has arrived at the Pakistan’s Port Qasim in Karachi to be used heavily for both domestic and generation purposes.
This information was confirmed by Pakistan’s Head of Chancery, Mr Asim Khan, in Abuja.
Mr Khan described the importation as the beginning of a major business expansion between Nigeria and Pakistan in the oil and gas sector.
He noted that, “In the future, we are expecting much trade in this as well as in other sectors.”
Before now, Pakistan was importing the commodity from Qatar to meet its domestic gas needs, but in order to deepen its ties with Nigeria, the Asian nation decided to do business with the African country.
According to the diplomat, Pakistan utilised gas heavily for both domestic and generation purposes and with the abundance of the product in Nigeria, his country is rest assured of adequate supply.
He said as the relationship between Nigeria and Pakistan waxes stronger, Pakistan recently opened scholarship offer for about 50 Nigerians for undergraduate studies in science related courses at some of its higher institutions.
