President Muhammadu Buhari has appealed to the Senate to confirm the nomination of Mr Ahmad Halilu as the substantive Director-General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA).
This was disclosed by the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu, in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.
In a letter to the Senate President, Mr Ahmad Lawan, the President said he was acting in line with Section 14 (1) (2) of the NASRDA Act 2010.
Mr Halilu was until his nomination is the acting Director-General of the agency after being the Director in charge of Strategic Space Applications in the same organisation from 2009 to 2019.
He has participated in workshops and conferences on Global Climate Change, Environmental Pollution and Food Security.
Mr Halilu also participated in conferences on Future Earth Observation Satellite Programmes and Geospatial Information Management; and Geospatial Technologies for Economic Diversification among others.
He previously worked at the National Population Commission, Federal University of Technology, Minna and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
NASRDA is the national space agency of Nigeria. It is under the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology. The agency was established in 2001 and is based in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja where it has a ground receiving station.
