Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, on Tuesday confirmed the payment of N22.5 billion to employees of over 260 Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government.

Last week, the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Mr Ahmed Idris, disclosed that government had released the sum of N35 billion for the payment of promotion arrears to workers of the federal civil service.

He made this known when he received a briefing from Chairman of the Committee on the Verification of civil servants who are entitled to Promotion Arrears.

Yesterday, the Minister of Finance disclosed that N22.5 billion has so far been paid to the beneficiaries, promising that the remaining workers would receive theirs.

“I’m happy to announce that the Federal Government has so far paid N22.5 billion to staff of more than 260 MDAs to fulfil our promise to settle the backlog of promotion arrears—covering 2011 to 2016—owed Federal Civil Servants across the Federation.

“The N22.5bn already paid is part of the N35bn released for that purpose.

“Another batch of 68 MDAs have undergone verification, and are now in line to receive their arrears, totalling N8.249bn.

“President Muhammadu Buhari is fully committed to the welfare of all our civil servants,” Mrs Adeosun posted on her verified Twitter page.
