A provisional licence has been issued by the federal government for the operation of the proposed inland dry port (IDP) in Edo State.

The facility, which will be managed by Atlantique Marine and Engineering Services (AMES) Limited, is to be called the AMES Edo Inland Dry Port. The Edo State government will also be part of the operators.

The integrated dry port will have two Truck Transit Parks (TTP) infrastructure strategically located at the Benin Bypass in Edo South and at Aviele in Edo North.

Recently, officials of the Federal Ministry of Transportation and the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) were at the state and they were impressed with what they met on ground.

This, according to AMES, facilitated the issuance of the provisional licence for the Edo IDP to operate as a port of origin and destination.

With this feat, the operators can begin talks with other potential investors to expand the business and help in the federal government’s efforts to decongest the ports in Lagos.

The Managing Director of AMES, Mr Charles Akhigbe, has expressed optimism of the prospect of the new business, noting that much work had been done in the area of investment collaboration to achieve projected capacity.

AMES is an inland logistics, warehousing and supply chain distribution network company situated in Benin City, Edo State. It was established to grow local content capability in all sectors of the Nigerian economy.

The company is run by a team of experienced personnel who combines an integrated approach and knowledge of logistics and warehousing solutions to everyday requirements to meet and exceed customers’ expectation.
