A sugar processing plant capable of refining 600 Tons of Cane per Day (TCD) is to be built by Ellah Lakes Plc in collaboration with Montserrado Investment Limited.
The sugar refinery is expected to run on 100 per cent renewable power and the period from construction to completion and commissioning is estimated to be two years.
According to Ellah Lakes, the facility is in support of the National Sugar Master Plan (NSMP) championed by the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC), which is geared towards “Accelerating the development and growth of the local sugar industry to achieve national self-sufficiency.”
In a statement issued on Monday, the firm the factory would be beneficial to the company and the nation at large as it would improve the numbers of the organisation.
“Ellah Lakes Plc is pleased to announce a collaboration agreement with Montserrado Investment Ltd to build a 600 Tons of Cane per Day sugar processing plant.
“This is in support of the National Sugar Master Plan (NSMP) championed by the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC), which is geared towards accelerating the development and growth of the local sugar industry to achieve national self-sufficiency.
“The sugar processing facility is expected to run on 100 per cent renewable power, and the period from construction to completion and commissioning, is expected to be 24 months,” a part of the notice said.
The Chief Executive Officer of Ellah Lakes, Mr Chuka Mordi, while commenting on the development, stated that, “This is a significant landmark for the company in fulfilling our strategic objective of diversifying our portfolio and production base and we are very excited to be working with Montserrado.”
“We are very pleased with this collaboration and look forward to a mutually beneficial, valuable and fruitful venture,” he further stated.
