The Nigerian Exchange (NGX) Limited is triggering discussions on the opportunities and challenges of exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in the domestic capital market.

The bourse is planning to hold a virtual seminar on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, to have experts in the sector discuss these issues.

In the webinar, which requires registration via https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_hq8oBCccTAKHGZ0UnccOlQ#/registration, will have the Divisional Head of Capital Markets at the NGX, Mr Jude Chiemeka, as one of the discussants.

The Managing Director of Vetiva Fund Managers Limited, Ms Oyelade Eigbe, is another speaker confirmed for the event, while the other two are the Head of Investment and Research at Lotus Capital Limited, Mr Ndako Mijindadi, and the Manager for Business Development and Exchange Traded Products for the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE), Ms Adele Hattingh.

This programme, organised through the NGX ETFs Conference, is themed ETFS in the Nigerian Capital Market: Opportunities and Challenges, and it commences by 10:00 am.

According to the NGX, the webinar aims to bring investors (both retail and institutional) and intermediaries in the Nigerian capital market under a common forum to discuss and address the major challenges experienced by issuers with issuing ETFs.

ETFs have similarities with mutual funds as registered investment companies pool funds from investors, but the products purchased with the funds are traded on the stock exchange.
