Investors Transact N18.8bn Shares in 19,482 Deals

Last week, 1.3 billion shares worth N18.8 billion were exchanged by investors on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) in 19,482 deals, data from the NSE has revealed. This was higher than the 1.2 billion equities valued at N14.1 billion traded the previous week in 17,980 deals.

It was learned that the financial services industry led the activity chart with 946.0 million shares valued at N9.7 billion traded in 11,046 deals, contributing 74.38 percent and 51.96 percent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.

Equities in the consumer goods sector followed with 82.9 million shares worth N5.6 billion in 2,862 deals, while stocks in the conglomerates industry recorded a turnover of 80.8 million shares worth N267.1 million in 1,163 deals.

Trading in FBN Holdings, GTBank and Access Bank accounted for 482.3 million shares worth N6.6 billion in 4,724 deals, contributing 37.93 percent and 34.99 percent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.

On the price movement chart, 38 equities appreciated in price during the week, lower than 39 equities in the previous week, while 29 shares depreciated in price, higher than 19 of the previous week, with 99 counters staying unchanged, lower than 108 recorded in the preceding week.

In the 5-day trading week, the All-Share Index and market capitalization both depreciated by 0.29 percent to close at 27,698.69 points and N13.484 trillion respectively.
