NASD OTC Market Gains Amid Surge in Trading Volume, Value

The NASD Over-the-Counter (OTC) Securities Exchange extended its positive run on Friday after it closed higher by 0.19 per cent.

This increased the market capitalisation of the NASD OTC bourse by N1.72 billion at the close of transactions to N935.94 billion from the N934.22 billion recorded in the preceding session.

In the same vein, the NASD Unlisted Securities Index (NSI) added 1.32 points to wrap the session at 712.28 points compared with 710.96 points recorded in the previous session.

The growth posted by the exchange occurred amid a surge in trading volume and the number of deals, while the value of transactions in the final trading session of the week waned.

Data showed that the volume of securities traded at the session increased by 30,225.1 per cent to 6.1 million units from the 20,143 units achieved on Thursday, as the number of deals went up by 283.33 per cent to 23 deals from the six deals carried out a day earlier.

However, the value of shares traded by the market participants decreased by 7.14 per cent to N1.3 billion from the N1.4 million reported in the preceding session.

Business Post reports that the alternative stock exchange witnessed a price gainer yesterday and it was the Central Securities Clearing System (CSCS) Plc, which gained 95 Kobo to close at N13.50 per share versus Thursday’s N12.55 per share.

The market also witnessed a price loser and it was FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Plc, which depleted by N1.55 to settle at N66.45 per unit versus the previous N68.00 per unit.

Geo-Fluids Plc remained the most traded stock by volume (year-to-date) with 334.2 million units valued at N331.3 million, UBN Property Plc was in second place with 228.0 units worth N191.0 million, and VFD Group Plc was in third place with 6.2 million units valued at N1.4 billion.

But VFD Group Plc was the most traded stock by value (year-to-date) with 6.2 million units valued at N1.4 billion, Geo-Fluids Plc slipped to second for selling 334.2 million units worth N331.3 million, and UBN Property Plc was in third place with 228.0 million units valued at N191.0 million.
