Nigerian Idol Season 9 Heats Up as Top 5 Contestants Emerge

Nigerian Idol Season 9 Top 5 Contestants

The race to crown the next Idol on Nigerian Idol Season 9 is still on, and the last episode was very intense as the Top 5 idols were revealed and they delivered outstanding performances.

The theme for the evening was ‘Showstopper,’ and the contestants truly gave us a show with their show-stopping performances that left us all wowed, making it a memorable night.

Highlights from last week’s episode:

Ice Prince as guest judge: The Oleku crooner, Ice Prince, made an appearance as a guest judge on the Showstopper episode.

Group performance: The evening started with a showstopping group rendition of John Legend’s “Preach.” Besides the beautiful takes from each contestant, one major highlight was the dance that complemented the performance. Kudos to Dr. Kaffy for training the contestants to deliver such energetic and beautiful choreography.

Stevie exits the show: We were still in the euphoria of the group rendition when IK Osakioduwa announced the contestant who wouldn’t be making the Top 5 cut. Sadly, Stevie had to bid farewell, having amassed the fewest votes from last week.

Lammy performs the Grammy-Winning song ‘I Gotta Feeling’: The evening’s performances started with Lammy’s rendition of Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling.” He expressed that he chose to step out of his comfort zone with this song choice to deliver good music, good dance, and good excitement, and we can say that he accomplished that.

Chioma crowned as Ice Princess: From taking us to church the previous week when she sang Sinach’s “Way Maker” to bringing us back to the dance floor with her performance of Beyonce’s “Run the World,” Chioma showed us what diversity is. Her performance was so beautiful that Judge Ice Prince crowned her as ‘Ice Princess.’

Performances by other contestants: Mira Clear displayed absolute love as she performed Beyonce’s “End of Time.” Chima also set the stage on fire with his dance moves and great delivery of Dua Lipa’s “Don’t Start Now.”

Final performance: Maio closed the Top 5 performances for the evening with a perfect Afrobeat rendition of Davido’s “Unavailable.” Judges Omawumi and Ric Hassani noted that it was their best performance of the night and applauded him for making a better comeback following the comments from the previous episode.
