Farmers in Osun State have been given an agricultural loan of about N851.6 billion by the state government.
A statement issued on Wednesday by the Director of Bureau of Communication and Strategy in the Governor’s Office, Mr Semiu Okanlawon, disclosed that 496 farmers’ cooperative groups in the state benefited from gesture.
According to Mr Okanlawon, the N851.6 million loan was given under the Quick Impact Intervention Programme (QUIIP) of the Mr Rauf Aregbesola-led administration.
He said 77 Farmers’ Cooperative groups benefited under the QUIIP 1, while 419 farmers’ Cooperative groups also benefited under QUIIP ll programme.
Mr Okanlawon said further that N164.9 million was disbursed to farmers under QUIIP I programme, while N686.8 million was distributed under the QUIIP II.
He noted that the loan was part of the comprehensive programme of Governor Aregbesola to boost agriculture in the state and advised farmers who benefited from the agriculture loans to repay the initial capital for others to benefit.
Mr Okanlawon said the government would continue to support farmers in its effort to boost food production in the state and the country at large.
