Permanent Secretary in the Lagos State Ministry of Education, Mr Adesina Odeyemi, has disclosed that over 10,000 applications were received for transfer to public schools in the state in the current academic session.
Mr Odeyemi made this known in the Conference Room of the Ministry during an interactive session with some parents and students led by Mrs Ramota Shamsideen who were on a visit to inquire why the transfer request of their wards were not effected.
The Permanent Secretary explained that until all renovation and reconstruction is completed in schools in order to make the environment conducive for learning, the government would not be able to accommodate more students into any of its schools.
According to him, as a responsible and responsive government, the state is making efforts to achieving and making high quality education accessible to all children in the state.
Speaking earlier, Mrs Ramota Shamsideen commended the state government for its efforts at providing infrastructure in public schools as it is evident in their visit to some schools.
Mrs Shamsideen implored the government to give adequate consideration to admitting more students who wish to transfer from private schools to the public schools in the next academic session.
