Borno State government has disclosed that it will employ about 5,000 teachers who will teach core subjects like Mathematics, Physics, English Language, Hausa, Arabic Language and History.
The new teachers, it was gathered, would also take recently introduced subjects such as Civic Education, Computer Studies, and Trade Entrepreneurship.
Speaking with newsmen on Tuesday in Maiduguri, the Commissioner of Education, Mr Inuwa Kubo, stated that the new teachers are expected to tackle shortage of teaching professionals and boost quality education in the state.
He further said the government plans to boost the quality of education with a view to resuscitating the lost glory of the sector in the state.
“While the sector had suffered a great setback following attack on school by Boko Haram insurgents across the state, the government had remained resilient and determined to revolutionise the it,” the Commissioner said.
He also said the Borno State government has introduced free feeding in all public schools, as an incentive for enrolment.
Mr Kubo noted that the Mr Kashim Shettima-led administration has also introduced 120 shuttle buses that would be transporting pupils to school, adding that 20 of the buses were already operating within the Maiduguri Metropolis and Jere council while the rest of the 100 would be deployed to the remaining 25 local government areas as soon as normalcy is restored.
