Jumia Begins Essay Competition With N1m Prize

One of the leading e-commerce platforms, Jumia, has announced its inaugural essay writing competition for all Nigerian students with the chance to win up to N1 million in scholarship.

The firm said the nationwide competition will bring together students from all over in an intellectual bout that challenges them to develop smart solutions and unleash hidden potentials that will address tangible problems faced in the country.

The essay competition will be divided into three categories: senior secondary school (SSS), junior secondary school (JSS) and advanced primary school pupils.

Jumia said the essay contest is a part of its commencement of the 2017 Back to School season sales.

The company explained that the secondary school category ranges from SS1 – SS3 and their essay topic for a N500,000 scholarship win is ‘What is the role of e-commerce as a means of diversification for the Nigerian economy?’ and the JSS1 – JSS3 students will writing for or against the topic ‘Parental control on the internet should be enforced till age 18’ for a N300,000 scholarship win.

Furthermore, pupils from Primary 4 – 6 will write for or against the topic: ‘Online shopping is better than offline shopping’ for a N200,000 scholarship.

Every participant is expected to send their entry in MS-Word document format, in not more than 250 words with their full name, class, school name and address, along with their parents/guardians phone number to [email protected]. All entries close at 12:00am on August 31st, 2017.

Along with the competition, the Jumia Back to School sales event will feature everything school-aged children need at incredible prices.

Stationeries, backpacks, shoes, sneakers, insulated lunch boxes, water bottles, provisions, toiletries, clothing for boys and girls, socks and underwear tees, laptops and computer accessories, alarm clocks and more!

There will also be free shipping on all back to school purchases until Sunday, July 27, 2017. The first 100 customers to shop daily between Monday, August 21 and Thursday, August 24 will enjoy a complimentary bottle of Dettol and peak milk.

While commenting on the Jumia Back to School campaign, Ojuola Asuquo, the Head of Engagement Marketing at Jumia Nigeria said, “We are pleased to support and make a contribution to Nigerian students and their families towards the upcoming school year.”

She also encouraged parents to cheer and prompt their school children to participate in Jumia’s inaugural writing competition, and likewise take full advantage of the Jumia Back to School sales campaign and free shipping offer.
