Public and private schools in Lagos State are to be closed effective Friday, December 18, 2020, the Director-General of the Lagos State Office of Education Quality Assurance in the Ministry of Education, Ms Abiola Seriki-Ayeni, has said.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the DG said the schools are to be reopened for resumption for the second term on Monday, January 4, 2021.

In the statement, Ms Seriki-Ayeni explained that the reason for the closure of the schools below the tertiary level was to allow pupils and students to enjoy the Christmas and New Year holiday.

“The 2020/2021 first term academic session for public and private schools comes to an end on Friday, December 18, 2020.

“Therefore, all public and private schools below the tertiary level in the state are [expected] to close for the Christmas and New Year holiday on that day.

“Schools are to resume back on Monday, January 4, 2021, in compliance with the Lagos State harmonised academic calendar,” she said.

The statement also directed students in boarding schools to resume for the second term on Sunday, January 3, 2021.

The EQA boss reminded all schools in the state to submit their safety plans and must include operational, academic, health and safety, data and communication plan.
