A Germany-based education firm, EIDU, has partnered with the Oyo State government to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals for Education.
The company, which derived its name from a German word, eidu, loosely translated as individual education, is introducing a digital literacy program to Nigeria, using Oyo and Katsina States as its pilot states.
At a sensitisation training for its members of staff at the conference room of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (Oyo SUBEB) in Ibadan, the Team Lead for Operations at EIDU, Mr Silas Armandos, explained that the programme would give learners and teachers access to curriculum-aligned content, adding that each learner will receive immediate learning feedback.
He revealed that the participants would be given Android phones and relevant teaching materials for the implementation of the EIDU Digital Learning Programme.
Mr Armandos, a Kenyan, added that over 300,000 learners have been registered on the EIDU device, saying, “Global learning crisis needs to be solved, through a platform like EIDU, where contents will be in line with the curriculum of each country.”
Also speaking, the Team Lead for Government Relations at EIDU, Mr Ignatius Attah, said the literacy program will transform the course of education in Oyo State, adding that it will build a strong foundation through the provision of increased learning outcomes in schools.
On his part, the chairman of Oyo SUBEB, Mr Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, stressed that the programme would contribute to the Oyo State government’s efforts to build a strong foundation for learners.
He stated that plans were in place to improve the expected standard for reading, writing and maths in basic schools, noting that, “By 2030, Oyo State will be well positioned to develop a strong digital learning, which will have a transformational impact on the state and entire nation at large.”
