No fewer than 10,000 pupils in public primary schools in Oyo State will enjoy health insurance coverage from the state government.
This was confirmed by the Oyo State Health Insurance Agency (OYSHIA) during a visit to its office by the Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (Oyo SUBEB), Mr Nureni Adeniran, on Wednesday in Ibadan.
The Executive Secretary of the agency, Mr Sola Akande, noted that the health insurance policy for the pupils was in furtherance of Governor Seyi Makinde’s integrated approach to education in the state.
“This visit is very timely as the agency is ready to embark on the enrolment and validation of 10,000 pupils who will benefit from the Oyo State health insurance policy,” he noted.
Mr Akande maintained that the pupils would benefit immensely from the organisation’s insurance programme.
In his response, Mr Adeniran promised that the board would take the enrolment exercise seriously, stating that it will be the first of its kind in the country and will be a model for other southwest states going forward.
He set up a 6-man committee between the two agencies to work out modalities for the implementation of the policy and expedite actions on it, disclosing that the insurance policy will be flagged off in September when a new session resumes.
