Some students have expressed their frustration over the difficulty in effecting a change to their choice of institution or any data for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) organised by the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB).
At the JAMB head office in Ikoyi, Lagos on Thursday, the students went wild while protesting against the hardship they are being forced to go through for a simple process.
They blocked the main road to the examination body, while security operatives allegedly assaulted some of them physically.
They claimed despite paying the mandated N2,500 for the change of data as requested, JAMB authorities have been unable to granted their requests for days.
During Thursday’s protest, some students passed out, but were quickly revived by their colleagues and medical personnel on ground.
“We are really frustrated at the way JAMB is treating us. We have paid for the correction of data especially for the change of institution, but they (JAMB) have not effected the changes for us.
“To make matter worse, some of these errors were never made by us, but we were forced to pay for their negligence. Yet, they are treating us like animals because we want to further our education. This is totally unfair,” one of the aggrieved students told Business Post.
Some of the students advised JAMB authorities to empower accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres to effect correction of data on the forms as this would ease the pressure on the agency’s head office.
Our correspondent observed that some students with similar issues came from neighbouring states, increasing the number of students at the Ikoyi office large.
