Wanted and displaced Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, has released a new video through the group to shows that the schoolgirls kidnapped in Borno State in 2014 by his members are still under his care.

This is the second time Shekau is speaking after he was displaced as leader of the terrorist group, which has a strong link with ISIS.

In the latest video released on Sunday, August 14, 2016, a man wearing a mask said Shekau directed the release of the visuals to show that the girls are still alive.

In April 2014, members of the Boko Haram group raided Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS), Chibok and abducted more than 200 girls.

Since their kidnap, the government had taken several steps to rescue the girls alive, including negotiating with the terrorists, but all these have proven abortive. However, few of them have escaped and are reunited with their parents.

In the new video, the group confirmed that the girls are still alive, but said some of them have died from air strikes.

“They should know that their children are still in our hands,” the man, whose face was covered by a turban in the video posted on YouTube, said.

“There are a number of the girls, about 40 of them, that have been married by the decision of Allah,” the man said further in the 11-minute video, which shows girls with veils sitting on the ground and standing in the background. “Some of them have died as a result of aerial bombardment.”
