President Muhammadu Buhari has directed his Ministers with political ambition to resign on or before Monday, May 16, 2022.
The directive was given on Wednesday at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The action followed several calls from Nigerians to Mr Buhari to direct his appointees to vacate office to pursue their political ambitions ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Some of the Ministers have expressed their intention to replace the President next year but they have refused to resign to focus on their ambitions.
The Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi; the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Mr Chris Ngige; the Minister of State for Petroleum, Mr Timipre Sylva; the Minister of State for Education, Mr Emeka Nwajiuba are among members of the cabinet vying for the presidency in 2023.
“All members of President Buhari’s cabinet vying for public office will have to resign on or before May 16, 2022,” Mr Tolu Ogunlesi, the Special Assistant to President Buhari on Digital and New Media, disclosed.
