About two weeks ago, Mr Buhari, after much pressure from citizens, spoke to the nation in a broadcast and he used the occasion to announce the lockdown of Lagos, Abuja and Ogun State for 14 days.

During that broadcast, he had said the cessation of movements was to curb the spread of coronavirus disease in the country. He had also said the restriction of would be for an initial two weeks.

Since last week, there have been calls for some quarters for an extension, while others have said the lockdown should be eased so as to allow Nigerians get back to work.

Last week, members of the Presidential task Force for COVID-19 led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha, briefed President Buhari on situation of things in the country.

Mr Mustapha, while addressing newsmen during the daily briefing in Abuja, had hinted that the decision to stop or extend the lockdown solely lies with the President.

In the statement issued by the presidency this afternoon, it was stated that Mr Buhari will address the nation, but what the speech will be about was not disclosed.

“President Muhammadu Buhari will broadcast to the nation Monday, April 13, 2020 at 7pm.

“Television, radio and other electronic media outlets are enjoined to hook up to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) respectively for the broadcast,” Mr Adesina said in the statement.
