Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele, has reportedly joined the race to become the president of the country in 2023.

According to reports, he has picked the presidential nomination form of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for N100 million.

It was reported that the form was purchased for the apex bank chief by his associates, who believe he has what it takes to make Nigeria great because of his experience as a commercial bank executive and a CBN governor.

There have been rumours that Mr Emefiele will run for the presidency but he refuted the speculations, saying he was focused on his present job of formulating monetary policies to put the nation’s economy back on its feet.

At the national convention of the APC in March 2022, posters of the nation’s chief banker adorned the venue of the event, fuelling calls for his resignation as his position was supposed to be non-partisan.

It is not certain if Mr Emefiele will immediately resign as the CBN Governor following the latest development.

Mr Bashir Ahmad, one of the media aides of President Muhammadu Buhari, posted on his verified Twitter page on Friday, “The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele has reportedly picked the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential nomination and expression of interest form.”
