No fewer than 16 suspects believed to be students of a Yahoo Yahoo Academy in Abuja have been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

A statement issued by the anti-money agency disclosed that the academy trainees were apprehended along with the founder of the ‘school’ by operatives of its Abuja Zonal Command.

According to the commission, the owner of the Yahoo Yahoo Academy, Mr Afolabi Samad, was apprehended on Thursday, May 12, 2022, in a sting operation.

The 24-year-old was grabbed with the 16 ‘undergraduates’ who are between the ages of 18 and 27 years at their hideout located in Peace Court Estate, Lokogoma, a suburb of Abuja.

The institution operates from a rented 3-bedroom flat and teaches the trainees the tricks of cyber-frauds after the payment of undisclosed fees.

Items recovered from the suspects include laptops, phones, charms and two vehicles: a Lexus RX350 and Toyota Highlander, the EFCC disclosed in the statement.

Business Post reports that this is not the first time the agency is busting Yahoo Yahoo school.

In August 2019, the EFCC arrested some suspected internet fraudsters known as Yahoo Boys in the Ikotun area of Lagos State.

About 12 persons were apprehended at the internet fraud learning institution run in a rented three-bedroom apartment in the suburb of the metropolis.

The commission raided the place following intelligence reports received from concerned members of the public about their alleged criminal activities.

“During the raid, some of the suspects attempted to flee by hiding on the roof of their apartment.

“Items recovered from the suspects include laptops and mobile phones,” the agency had disclosed in a statement.
