Following media reports that the notorious kidnapper, Chukwuduneme Onwuamadike, also known as Evans, arrested last month by security operatives had vanished from custody, the police have released a statement to refute this.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Jimoh Moshood, the police said the kidnap suspect was still in their custody.
Mr Moshood explained that Mr Evans was still assisting operatives in their investigations, urging members of the public to disregard media reports about the alleged disappearance of the Anambra State-born suspect.
“Evans is intact in police custody, investigations into all the crimes he has committed which include several kidnappings; armed robbery and murder are ongoing.
“The police have made significant progress in the investigations of these crimes,” the statement issued in Abuja said.
“The public should disregard and discountenance all media reports in the social and print media that he has vanished or released and all criminal charges against him dropped as UNTRUE and ABSOLUTE FALSEHOOD,” it added.
Concluding, the police assured that Evans “would be arraigned in court along with other members of his gang on completion of investigation.”
