In its bid to bridge the gap of several years of neglect on welfare packages, development and human capacity building and improvement of seafarers, ratings and officers in the Nigerian maritime industry, the Noble Seamen Development Foundation, a non-government organization (NGO) saddled with the responsibilities to develop Seafarers with global trends and skills needed and even to empower successful and qualified ones, has promised to empower seafarers and some unemployed youths in Rivers state.

Another cardinal objective of the NGO is to proffer solutions for guidance and counselling in accordance with the rules and policies governing the operations and administration of seafarers. It also aims to provide a workable framework to alleviate their sufferings and empower them with gainful employment.

At the maiden meeting with the board of the group in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital over the weekend, the president of NSDF, Mr Douglas Eromobor, noted that the “Noble Seamen Development Foundation is an NGO established for human capacity provision, efficient service delivery Provider; Logistics Provider and employment Provider.”

“The foundation is aimed to create seamless operations for Seafarers, enhance their welfare, and working environment and collaborate with government and its agencies on synergies,” he added.

He charged the directors of the foundation to redouble their efforts and zeal to help in achieving lasting solutions for seafarers and a feasible roadmap in the area of collaboration with the government in the Nigerian maritime industry.
