The six-year-old marriage of a couple in Oyo State has been dissolved by an Ibadan Customary Court after the wife approached the court to seek its dissolution.
The woman, Mrs Modupeoluwa Bankole, claimed that her husband, Mr Femi Bankole, embarrasses, molests and threatens her life because she was always bed-wetting.
Mrs Bankole further claimed her husband was in the habit of disgracing her in public because of her condition. She said that she earlier told her husband of her health challenges before they got married.
“His bad attitude toward me can no longer be endured; he beats me always and I have no rest of mind due to the way he treated me.
“I had been warned not to marry him due to his bad character but I did not listen because I loved him.
“I pray the court to separate us so that I can start my life afresh since I am still young,” she told the court on Thursday.
In his response, Mr Bankola claimed his wife’s mother always asks for money, adding that his mother-in-law was “careless about the success of our marriage and was in the habit of supporting her daughter’s bad deeds.”
He thereafter gave his wife’s consent for a divorce.
Dissolving the marriage, the judge, Mr Mukaila Balogun, ordered that the only child of the couple be with the woman, while he directed the man to provide N4,000 monthly for the upkeep of the child and warned the parties against fomenting trouble against each other.
