The popular no gree for anybody slogan used by some youths on social media has been described as a security threat by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), which warned that it could lead to civil unrest in the country.

Presenting some suspects arrested across the country to newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Mr Olumuyiwa Adejobi, cautioned Nigerians on the use of the catchphrase.

“The new slogan for 2024 for young people is no gree for anybody.

“We have been informed from our intelligence that this is coming from the retributory sector that might likely cause problems across the country.

“No gree for anybody is being seen as just normal talk. In the security community, we have seen it as a very dangerous slogan that can trigger crises,” he said.

Since the beginning of this year, the slogan, which loosely means do not allow to be bullied, has gained popularity on social media, with some using it as a form of motivation not to give up.

The pronouncement by the police has already generated mixed reactions on social media, with some condemning the security outfit for reading a different meaning to the slogan.

“This year, no gree for anybody o. Legally and legitimately, double your hustle omo iya mi,” a user of the microblogging platform, X, formerly known as Twitter, charged his followers.

“With all the insecurity in the country, it’s the Slogan “no gree for anybody” that is a security threat? Honestly, what is our problem in this country?” another user questioned the rationale behind the warning by the police’s image maker.

“So, No gree for anybody is a more potent threat to Nigeria’s national security than what is happening in Plateau and other places across the country?” another user posted on Thursday.
