Retirees/prospective retirees of treasury-funded federal government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) can now proceed for registration as the National Pension Commission (PenCom) has announced the commencement of online enrolment of retirees from Wednesday, September 1, 2021.

Recall that Business Post reported that the Commissioner, Technical, PenCom, Mr Anyim Nyerere, at a workshop organised by the commission for Pension Desk Officers (PDOs) on Enrollment Application in June, announced that 21,000 prospective retirees would be registered soon on its newly developed online enrollment portal across the nation.

As a prelude to its formal deployment, the agency carried out a pilot run of the exercise between August 2 and 20, 2021, with selected MDAs in the six geo-political zones and the federal capital territory (FCT) in order to test-run the application with real-time data.

PenCom, in a statement issued on Monday, said that employees of federal government treasury-funded MDAs who retired between January and August 2021, due to retire from September 2021, and missed the enrolment exercises in previous years were eligible to apply.

The online application has the capability to register, verify and enrol prospective retirees of treasury-funded federal government MDAs for the purpose of computing their accrued pension rights and budgetary allocation.

In the statement, PenCom explained that the registration exercise can be done either self-assisted or via a pension fund administrator (PFA).

For those who choose to apply themselves, they are required to visit PenCom’s website (www.pencom.gov.ng) to begin the online enrolment process as the step-by-step procedure for the online enrolment would be hosted on the platform.

“This is done by registering and capturing their employment details as well as uploading scanned copies of the required documents before proceeding to their respective Pension Fund Administrator (PFA) for physical verification and enrolment,” a part of the statement said.

However, retirees/prospective retirees who are unable to complete the online registration for any reason could approach the Pension Desk Officer (PDO) of their respective MDAs or visit their PFA for assistance.

According to the commission, the deadline for completing the registration with respective PFAs is October 29, 2021.

Partnerships for Progress: Collaboration Between Banks and Fintechs is the Future of Banking in Africa

By Ike.S Anison Historically, the formal banking sector’s penetration in Africa has been relatively low. And, while there has been significant improvement in this area in recent years, there is still a significant portion of the population on the continent who are unbanked or lack access to financial services. According to the World Bank, approximately 350 million adults in sub-Saharan Africa are still unbanked, accounting for 17% of the 2 billion global unbanked population. This has largely been due to a struggle to tap into the continent’s low-income segment, the widest proportion of the population. Consumers within this market feel
