The detained journalist with Premium Times, Mr Samuel Ogundipe, has finally been released by the Nigeria Police Force after he was kept in custody since Tuesday.
It was gathered that the journalist was arraigned in court on Friday morning for the second time this week and was granted bail, which he met and then consequently released.
On Wednesday, Mr Ogundipe was arraigned before Magistrate Abdulwahab Mohammed of the Kubwa Grade 1 Magistrate Court in Kubwa, Abuja without a legal representation.
However, this morning, when he was again taken to the same court, and given access to a lawyer, who subsequently asked for his bail.
It was gathered that the court granted the journalist bail in the sum of N500,000 and a surety who must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
Mr Ogundipe was apprehended by the police after he published a report submitted by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Ibrahim Idris, on the invasion of the National Assembly last Tuesday by the operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).
When he was arrested, the journalist was pressured by the police to reveal the source of his story, especially who leaked the report to him.
