Despite several petitions against Mr Ayine Anthony Mkpe, the Senate, on Wednesday, confirmed his nomination as Auditor-General of the federation.
At its plenary session on Wednesday, December 14, 2016, the lawmakers had considered the request of President Muhammadu Buhari for the confirmation of the appointment of Mr Mkpe to take over the office of the Auditor-General of the country.
The upper legislative arm consequently, after careful deliberations, referred the request to the Public Accounts Committee, for further action.
There had been petitions aimed at frustrating Mr Mkpe’s confirmation, but today, the Senate’s Committee said after careful deliberations, it found the nominee worthy for the position.
Submitting his report, Chairman of the Committee, Mr Andy Uba pointed out that, “The committee examined his educational qualifications, career progression, experience, character, Federal Character principles, understanding of the functions of the Office of the Auditor-General for the Federation, etc.”
