About 29 students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation in Afaka, Kaduna State, have been released by their abductors.
The students were abducted by some terrorists fondly called bandits in the country on March 11, 2021, while they were sleeping in their hostels and taken to the forest, where they were maltreated.
The Governor of Kaduna State, Mr Nasir El-Rufai, had said he was not going to pay any ransom to the kidnappers for the release of the students.
This angered some of the parents, who staged various protests, including at the National Assembly on Tuesday, calling for an urgent step to secure the release of their children.
On Wednesday, the students finally regained freedom and this was confirmed by the spokesman for the Kaduna Police Command, Mr Mohammed Jagile.
Also, the Chairman of the Concerned Afaka Parents, Mr Abdullahi Usman, disclosed that the release of the students was facilitated by the Sheikh Abubakar Gumi dialogue committee.s
