Lagos COVID-19 Death Toll Hits 10

Deaths related to the coronavirus reached 10 in Lagos State on Thursday, April 16, the Lagos State Government announced.

Through Twitter on Thursday, the Commissioner of Health in the state, Mr Akin Abayomi, announced the death of three new persons infected with the deadlyvirus.

Mr Abayomi disclosed that the three deceased died on Wednesday and they were all males aged 51, 52 and 62.

One of the casualties is a medical doctor who had contact with an infected person who recently returned to the country, the Commissioner said.

Lagos State has also recorded the highest number of coronavirus cases in the country with 235 cases out of over 400.

This implies that Lagos has more than 50 percent of cases recorded in Nigeria, with 18 confirmed last night by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to bring the nationwide to 407.

Furthermore, the Commissioner explained that the cheering news is that 16 patients fully recovered from COVID-19 and have been discharged following further screening that confirmed their status negative.

This brings total number of discharged COVID-19 patients in Lagos State to 85.

On Wednesday, 34 new cases were announced by the NCDC out of which 18 were from Lagos; 12 from Kano; two from Katsina and one case each from Delta and Niger States.

A total of 128 patients have been discharged with 12 deaths.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has 58 cases so far; Osun- 20; Kano- 16; Edo- 15; and Oyo- 11.

Others include Ogun – nine; Katsina – seven; Bauchi, Kaduna, and Akwa Ibom – six; Kwara and Delta with four; Ondo – three; Enugu, Ekiti, Rivers, Niger – two; Benue and Anambra with one.
