Some expired and counterfeit products worth several millions of Naira were on Thursday destroyed by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in Abuja.

The destroyed commodities were those seized and voluntarily submitted to the agency.

Officials of NAFDAC and others from the health sector were present to watch how the products were destroyed with fire.

However, they appealed to the Federal Government to put in place better measures to carry out such exercise, stressing that the use of inferno for such has a negative effect on the environment.

NAFDAC has stressed that it would continue to live up to its mandate of safeguarding the health of Nigerians.

The agency however appealed to members of the public to work together with it by being mindful of products purchased while reporting suspicious activities within their immediate environment.
