Buhari Appoints Two NAICOM Deputy Commissioners

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Mr Sabiu Bello Abubakar and Mr Oba Olufemi Oluniyi as deputy commissioners for the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM).

The President gave the approval in a statement to the Head, Commissioner for Insurance Directorate, Mr Rasaq Abdulsalam, on Monday, July 27.

In the letter, it was stated that Mr Abubakar will serve as the deputy commissioner (Technical) while Mr Oluniyi will serve as the deputy commissioner in charge of finance and administration for the insurance regulator.

It further noted that both appointments are effective July 17, 2020, for an initial tenure of five years.

Mr Abubakar is the Executive Director (Operations & Training) of Jaiz Takaful Insurance Plc. He is a Fellow of both Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) and Chartered Insurance Institute of London as well as Associate Member of Nigeria Institute of Management (AMNIM). He graduated from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto with Bachelor Degree in Education and has a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) in Finance from the Bayero University Kano.

At NAICOM, he was head Market Development and chaired many Committees such as Insurance of Government Strategic Assets Committee and contributed to the development of many regulatory guidelines and policies.

Mr Oluniyi, until this appointment, was the director in charge of Finance and accounts, NAICOM. He serves as a Non-Executive Member of the Board of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria.
